5 American Lives Versus 12 Years of Industry-Backed Drug Monopoly

The Five vs. Twelve campaign takes a first-hand look at the struggle American patients and their families face due to the enormous cost of biologic medicines. The lives of April, Barbara, Anne, J.Katz, Rob and thousands of other Americans will be directly impacted by the actions of Congress this year as it establishes a FDA approval pathway for generic versions of biologic medicines.

Recent studies have found that biogeneric drug competition could save tens of billions of dollars over the coming years.

But if the Senate and House of Representatives decide to support language favored by the powerful biotech industry that preserves their monopolies, these five Americans will continue to face soaring costs for drugs that can save their lives with no end in sight.

The Five vs. Twelve campaign is a part of Teva’s Year of Affordable Healthcare Campaign. The Campaign (www.yearofaffordablehealth.com) is a nationwide call for increased access to affordable healthcare for American citizens. The program coincides with the 25th anniversary of the landmark Hatch-Waxman Act, which created the modern generic pharmaceutical industry and has saved hundreds of billions of healthcare dollars.
